Haden Freeman partner with Nalco Company to install award winning technology
Haden Freeman and Nalco Company have completed a project with one of the world’s largest car manufacturers, Toyota Motor Manufacturing (UK) Ltd. Innovative re-use of wastewater in the vehicle manufacturing process has helped Toyota to reduce water consumption and discharge, while also making cost savings.
Haden Freeman and Nalco Company, water treatment specialists, installed a reverse osmosis plant that recycled wastewater discharged from Toyota’s vehicle painting process and used it in boilers and compressors. This reduced the water consumed and also reduced the amount of water discharged to sewers.
Impact
- Total water consumption reduced from 679,000m3 to 554,000m3 per year, an 18% saving
- Water consumption per car reduced from 2.83m3 to 1.97m3 per car by March 2006
- Total site discharge to foul sewer reduced from 678,000m3 before the project to 547,000m3 per year, a 19% reduction
- Annual cost saving of £106,000, payback/investment period 4.2 years
The technology has resulted in Toyota winning The Business in the Community 2007 Eco Efficiency Award.
