Haden Freeman, the Denton-based independent engineering company, has affirmed its influential position within the engineering sector by being one of the sponsors of the 13th International Society for Pharmaceutical Engineering (ISPE) UK Affiliate annual awards dinner, conference and exhibition in Manchester. This prestigious event was held at the city’s landmark Hilton Deansgate hotel with guest speaker Edwina Currie representing Marie Curie Cancer Care.

ISPE is a not for profit organisation led by the world’s top pharmaceutical manufacturing professionals. Many key UK members are based in the North West, making Manchester the perfect backdrop to the event. ISPE members worldwide work together to improve the pharmaceutical industry, exchanging knowledge and experience to develop technology and improve standards.

The conference, on 15th November, titled ‘Manufacturing Excellence – Leveraging the Value of Experience’ was attended by over 130 delegates, with 45 exhibitors. The day culminated in a black tie awards dinner with Edwina Currie, the former Conservative Health Minister, speaking to an enthralled audience of over 500 people. She spoke of her early experience working in the pharmaceutical industry in her native Liverpool, as well as telling her anecdotes of her time as a Minister.

Edwina speaks at selected events for Marie Curie Cancer Care (MCCC), with her fee being donated to the charity. During the evening a prize draw raised additional funds that culminated with over £5,000 being donated to MCCC.

Lindon Roberts, Business Development Manager of Haden Freeman and UK Affiliate Chair of ISPE said: “We are proud to support the ISPE and this annual event as it acknowledges the efforts of both individuals and companies in helping ISPE to succeed in its mission to become the society for healthcare professionals.
“The annual event continues to sell out every year with only the venue size restricting numbers as ISPE continues to grow around the world. Haden Freeman constantly seeks to offer the best solutions within the pharmaceutical sector and this event allows us to both pass on our expertise and to encourage and acknowledge further innovation and development.”

About Marie Curie Cancer Care:
There are just over 2000 Marie Curie Nurses nationwide, who care for patients in their own homes for a full working day or night shift. Their presence allows patients to remain in the comfort of their own homes when they might otherwise have gone into a hospital. The flexible hours worked by Marie Curie Nurses allow the charity to respond to the individual needs of patients with cancer and their families. The shifts the Marie Curie Nurses work give both patient and family the chance to discuss their worries and fears with a sympathetic professional who has time to listen.
