Background
Diageo is a British multinational alcoholic beverage company, with its headquarters in London.
Diageo is the world's leading premium drinks business with an outstanding collection of beverage alcohol brands across spirits, beer and wine. These brands include Johnnie Walker, J&B, Buchanan's and Bushmills whiskies, Smirnoff, Baileys, Captain Morgan, Jose Cuervo, and Guinness.
Requirement
Diageo is committed to ensuring its safety systems are world class and as part of this undertaking the company required three Functional Safety Assessments to be undertaken at its Cambus distillery in Alloa.
Our Response
HFL completed all three FSA’s in accordance with Section 2.5 of the Diageo Europe Supply Standard, “Process Functional Safety Management Plan and Framework Specification Document – Safety Instrumented Systems”.
Each FSA was presented as a report, identifying areas of compliance and non-compliance along with recommendations to address non-compliance where appropriate.
HFL has assisted several COMAH sites in meeting the requirements of the 61508/61511 standards and in demonstrating compliance with the standards to regulatory bodies such as the HSE (Health and Safety Executive) and the EA (Environmental Agency).
Result
Diageo’s safety systems were validated by Haden Freeman and were compliant with both IEC 61508 and Diageo’ s “Process Functional Safety Management Plan and Framework Specification Document – Safety Instrumented Systems”.
HFL continues to support Diageo with functional safety consultancy along with engineering and construction expertise.
“The support from Haden Freeman has been second to none. Furthermore they were happy to train up our team on general functional safety and, in particular, functional safety assessments”.
